Once again, our own Kathy Dell offers an insightful guest blog for your reading pleasure. This week it focuses on a career in the skies via an interview with one of our pilots. Enjoy!

At Avionco, we take pride in working with some of the most experienced and well-trained pilots in the industry. Each pilot brings a unique journey, filled with challenges, growth, and dedication. Today, we highlight the story of one of our accomplished pilots, Sebastien Cote, whose path to success is a testament to hard work, adaptability, and passion for aviation.

A Career Built on Passion and Perseverance

Sebastien’s journey began in the early 1990’s when he first took to the skies as a member of the Air Cadets in Montreal. However, early challenges made it difficult to pursue a pilot’s license immediately, leading him to shift his focus to aviation maintenance. He trained at a mechanical school and joined Bombardier’s Completion Center, gaining hands-on experience with Global aircraft. This foundation in aircraft maintenance gave him an in-depth understanding of the airplane types he would later fly.

After a few years and still determined to become a pilot, Sebastien took matters into his own hands by purchasing a Cessna 150. Using his expertise as a licensed mechanic, he fully restored the aircraft, maintaining and flying it himself to build his flight hours. This hands-on experience was invaluable, allowing him to steadily progress toward his pilot goal.

The Transition from Mechanic to Pilot

Balancing a demanding job and flight training was no easy task. By adjusting his schedule at Bombardier to a three-day workweek, he devoted the rest of his time to flying. His persistence paid off as he acquired the necessary licenses and experience to move forward in his piloting career.

With his unique combination of mechanical expertise and flight hours made him a strong candidate for Bombardier’s Training Center, where he became an instructor. Recognizing his ambition for further growth, he joined Airbus as a test pilot for the A220 program, formerly part of Bombardier. However, his pursuits didn’t stop there…

Becoming a Contract Pilot and Joining Avionco

In 2023, Sebastien transitioned into contract flying for us at Avionco, working on the Challenger 300 and later the Global 6000. The contract pilot lifestyle brought exciting opportunities—flying to diverse destinations and working with different clients. By spring of the next year, he became a full-time pilot with us, finding the perfect balance between adventure and reliability.

A Career Defined by Passion and Dedication

Sebastien Cote’s aviation journey to become an accomplished pilot is a testament to perseverance, adaptability, and expertise. His ability to navigate challenges, embrace new opportunities, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism makes him an essential part of the Avionco team.

We take great pride in pilots like Sebastien, whose dedication and skill ensure every flight is executed with precision and care. Their experience allows us to consistently deliver exceptional service, making each journey the best it can be for our clients.
